What’s going on in this picture?
Neighbours coming together for one common objective. In this case survival.
Four neighbours split on this thrashing mill in the 60s so that they could produce grain and straw for their animals. Once a year they all get together and harvest each other’s crop. Nowadays, it seems like everyone has their own threshing mill. Communities are not as cohesive as they once were.
When I think of local food systems I think about this mill scenario. We (producers) all have a common goal. That goal is to sell products from our businesses directly to consumers, cutting out the middle processes and grocery stores to ultimately maximize the return for our products.
What we have created is a platform (threshing mill) for producers across multiple sectors to sell there products. Our hope is that we can all come together on one space to make consumer businesses seen as a viable option for groceries.
I have reached out to numerous business over the past three years and it is surprising how many people think that our platform is complicated. Make an account on a website displaying your farms location, products, values, and boom, you have an online presence in the food marketplace. It is that simple.
Social media is a great tool but let’s face it is harder to gain a presence on your own versus creating a presence with 1,000’s of farms across North America. We do everything in our power to give you the best chance to connect with more customers. Through social media, to SEO, we do everything we can to help boost farm direct sales.
Let’s work together to give “the little guy” a seat at the national grocery table.
